Production postponed

Delayed indefinitely while re-envisioning

I'm still interested in producing this type of anthology, however, it seems the scope of submissions was too narrow and I simply didn't receive the numbers I needed (although quality was quite good), so I've had to postpone it.

If the anthology re-opens, it will likely be larger in scope (Fortress World) but within a specified framework (that still gives much flexibility). However, due to personal time constraints, this will probably not be until at least 2011.

Future Britain

Open to anyone who has knowledge and an opinion of life and trends in modern Britain. The Future Britain anthology asks you to extrapolate current trends (or just your favourite one) to a logical, if (hopefully) extreme future conclusion.

To kick-start the mental hamster-wheel, some possible trends to build into your stories could include: flooding, police state, increased knife crime, big brother (cctv omni-presence), health and safety absurdities, massive traffic congestion, urban sprawl, reduced usable land from encroaching seas, increasing population (+/- immigration), increased racial tensions...but I'm sure each of you has a pet-peeve of their own to bring along.

Ideas I'd like to see...

(1)

As it keeps coming up in the news and year in review shows (and rightly so), I'd love to see stories speculating on what happened to all the personal data that the government has lost in the last few years. Who has it, what might they be doing/planning with it?

(2)

In the recent X-factor finals, I was really struck by how the finalists campaigned for votes, exactly like a federal election. This seems ripe for some speculation.

(3)

Two words...Cyber Courts. A fairly new concept that seems taken right out of sci-fi, it plays out in two ways.

  • Computers in places like malls that link to magistrates for dealing out 'instant justice'.
  • New court to be established by Department of Counterterrorism to deal with suspected 'computer intruders'.

(4)

Extremes in terrorist protection. The Homeland Security department seems bent on protecting us from absolutely everything. Like an absurdly overprotective mother, on has the feeling that soon they may just decided to coccoon everyone in bubble wrap and lock us in boxes just so we won't be hurt. Clearly, this whole area is ripe for speculation.
